Lovely Chikanobu triptych of a Japanese traditional children’s day. Children of the samurai family are enjoying a Boys’ Festival on the 5th of May. A giant black cloth carp flies in the sky as a symbol of success in the boys’ lives. Beneath the carp a group of boys are performing ritual combat.
The picture is full of symbols of the festival.
